Missions Monday

This past Sunday my Pastor preached the 2nd message in a series called "Living in the Midst of Dying",the title of his message this week was "Light in the Midst of Darkness".
He used Matthew 5:13-16.He had two points:
1)THE PRIORITY OF BEING LIGHT
~light can't be hid-vs. 14
~light wouldn't be hid-vs. 15
~light mustn't be hid-vs.16
We need to make being a light a priority!
2)THE PURPOSE OF BEING LIGHT
We should be drawing people to Christ through us,don't let the attention fall on us, talk about what God is doing!
"Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."-Matthew 5:16
Some other verses he used were Philippians 2:15,Ephesians 2:2-4&10,5:7-11,13&14
He also stated that if he were to light a candle and turn out all the lights, everyone would be looking at the light!

Missions Monday

Today I'm going to post some quotes and letters from Nate and Marj Saint, two excellent missionaries to Ecuador.
When Nate Saint and Jim Elliot were missionaries to Ecuador Nate would often tell Jim when there was an answered prayer or victory;"Praise God,man, that's our pay you know. That's what were here for,and if the gospel isn't getting out through those we serve,we'd better pack up."
"It's a final comforting thought that to realize that we are here on business for the Lord and that He is watching us every moment."~Nate Saint
"I suppose the danger faced in that situation(talking of staying alone in a jungle near the Auca's)was probably less than you face on the highway in front of the house there in the United States. However,if you are interested in adventure and thrills, this has it beat three ways. And if we are responsible enough to require of ourselves an intelligent justification of risks faced, what greater justification than to find one's self in the position of supporting a fellow who feels God has called him to live in that situation with his family-to feel one's self bracing shoulders with Ed to make,as it were,a human bridge, over which the gospel might leap the chasm that isolates these savage people."~written by Nate Saint to a letter to his parents
"From that time this, the happiness that has been encountered on every hand, stops me cold.Oh,sure...there have been and will be rough places, but the things that mean the most...spiritual things...mean alot more in tough places."~Nate Saint said this when he found what the Lord wanted for him.
"We know by experience that his promises are good and that He is abundantly able to supply your needs out of His storehouse where He keeps universes, worlds, moons, stars. In his other storehouse He has grace unbounded, billows of love on oceans of care for His own, mountains of patience, and other things abundantly above all that we can ask or think.Isn't it a crime we are so often slow to accept these gifts?"~Nate Saint
"But when it came to Christmas I could not help but noticing the fact that none of us was in a jesting mood;not because we would miss being with Christian friends and co-laborers in the gospel, but because these witnesses to two-hundred silent generations who have gone to their pagan graves without the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ..these who have never once known the name of Christ, these who survive by killing and die by counter killing...these have no Christmas!
...As we have a high old time this Christmas, may we who know Christ hear the cry of the damned as they hurtle headlong into the Christlesss night without ever a chance.May we be moved with compassion as our Lord was.May we shed tears of repentance for those whom we have failed to bring out of the darkness.Beyond the smiling scenes of Bethlehem may we see the crushing agony of Golgotha.May God give us a new vision of His will concerning the Lost and our responsibility."~Written by Nate Saint in a letter to a brother in Christ
"...I look at our children,I think that these little ones are particularly blessed of God,for it may be their privilege to lay down their lives for Christ's sake."~Written by Nate in a letter to the Michael's family
"It is my hearts desire,Kathy,Stevie, and Phillip, that this biography will help you,and others who read it,to see the importance of knowing God's will for your lives and of following Him in simple obedience."~Written by Marj Saint in a letter to her children after the death of Nate. The biography she was talking about was Jungle Pilot, the book where I got these quotes.

Missions Monday

God bless the men and women,
                                  Who serve Him oversea;
God raise up more to help them
                              To set the nations free,
                                  Till all the distant people
                                 In every foreign place
                              Shall understand His kingdom
And come to know His grace.

*This is actually part of a hymn,I found just the lyrics in a book we have and thought it was good.
