adventure || p. e. i. ||

for those of you who have been so anxiously awaiting this series of posts, may i remind you of a statement a very well known lady once said...

"Looking forward to things is half the pleasure of them."
[l.m. montgomery]

i do hope you enjoy this mini series full of pictures, quotes, stories, and so on. feel free to leave comments!

during our short stay on the island we managed to see a number of lighthouses, eleven if i'm not mistaken.

they all had similar resemblance...white that has chipped off through the years, accented by bright reds.

this is one of my favorite pictures from the trip...so postcard-ish!

some sat on the edges of cliffs, some on the high sand dunes, and others far back in the bay.

enough touring prince edward island for today. check back tomorrow around noon for a glimpse at charlottetown! feel free to share this web address with friends and family!

adventuring || p e. i. || part one

we left this morning and headed on our journey...

after hours of riding in the car and only taking a few short stops we are in maine, only hours away from our destination...

as many of you can imagine, i have been taking plenty of pictures. for now i will only share a few... just to give you a glimpse of what i've been seeing.

some highlights of the day were...

[seeing 5 states i've never been to]

[anna having chocolate on her face]

[moose hunting...hunting with my eyes that is]

[seeing old towns, buildings, and churches]

[making a stop at goodwill and purchasing a vintage suitcase]

[being out of the car]

2pm Departure Fine Art Photograph 8x10 by SarahMoldovan on Etsy, $ 30.00

if you are like me, you grew up watching

{anne of green gables}

you've watched it so many times, you know exactly what is next, and really you can basically quote the whole movie verbatim.

and if you're like me, you always thought it would be nice to visit that quaint little island.

but you never thought it would happen.

until one day when i found out i was going as a graduation/birthday present from my parents.

 the time has just about arrived for my mom, sister, and i to leave.

not only will it be my first time in canada, but also my first time in most of the new england states.

...it's about time i got around to adventuring on their soil.

i haven't begun to pack,

actually i haven't even gotten a suitcase out yet.

there is so much to do before our departure monday morning:

fellowships at church,

birthday sessions to photograph,

a trip to virginia,

classes to teach,

ministries at church,

etc.

keep checking back often though. people have been telling me to take a lot of pictures...

which is kind of a no-brainer seeing as how i already take a million pictures.

 hopefully next time i post you will be seeing some photos of what i've been viewing up there!

the adventurer,
Erin Rae

|| why i take photographs ||

why i take photographs

pictures are a way of...

preserving,

of holding on to,

of capturing special moments,

of taking in beauty,
and so much more.

exactly 100 years ago, this picture was taken.
to you it may mean nothing,
but to me it means so much.
you see pictured here on the far right
is a young woman...

this woman is my great grandma penzora byrd.

here she poses with her family from the backwoods of north carolina.

i'm not sure where they located a camera.

you have to understand,

their life was simple,

they hardly had a thing,

they were just backwoods people.

people who didn't get birth certificates when they were born.

people who worked their lands for a living.

people who sat on their front porches, listened to frogs peep, watched lightning bugs fly by, and talked with those they loved for entertainment.

people who raised their young ones to do just exactly what they had done for a living.

people who didn't go to school, didn't know how to read or write.

these simple people are my people. and i long to know them and their life, but while i may never know the story behind this photo, or the stories of their life, i'm thankful for this simple picture,

because to me this picture

preserves a moment in time {which would have otherwise probably been forgotten}

gives me something to hold on to {my heritage, and something for me to pass on to my children}

it captures a special moment {these simple people recording their history}

and it displays beauty {the beauty of family}
